BX Express Boxcars
During the 1940’s and 1950’s, box express (BX) cars provided coast to coast speedy delivery for all sorts of packages and mail that had to get to a destination fast. A variety of standard boxcars of the period were used for this package delivery system. Typically coupled immediately behind the locomotives of fast passenger trains, these special boxcars were often uniquely decorated for their express delivery duties.
